Christmas
in Wilmore 2011
This week we had two different families invite us to "Christmas in Wilmore." We were treated to a special sunset as we journeyed the 25 minutes from our house to the lovely town of Wilmore, Kentucky.
Wilmore Kentucky may be my favorite small town in America. It is not by any means the most beautiful or the most aesthetic. It does however have some of the friendliest and hospitable people on earth. The town consist of a few businesses, Asbury University and Seminary and many small adjacent farms.
This was the 23rd year for "Christmas in Wilmore." All of the businesses open their doors and serve refreshments to the festive crowd. My wife, Kathy's favorite treat were the Spring Rolls at the "Great Wall Chinese Restaurant."
There is of course the lighting of the Christmas tree. Many businesses have a group of musicians performing and there is a free concert at the United Methodist church at 8:00 PM which is packed with an appreciative audience.
Meeting old acquaintances and their friends is most rewarding as you enjoy the music, food and festive atmosphere. Kathy and I have only been in Lexington 3 years. It seems like a large number of people we know well live near or in Wilmore.
Make plans next year to visit this sleepy little town and enjoy a big slice of Americana.
